Floating Frame Technique

A couple of weeks ago, Patty and I got together and stamped all afternoon. One of the cards I wanted to do was the Floating Frame Technique. While its not hard, it does take a bit of time to make. The good news is, you get two cards.

Patty’s cards are the yellow and green and mine are the Terracotta Tile. We both used the Mosaic Mood Specialty DSP. You can find this paper and the whole suite on pages 118-120.  We didn’t use any other products from the suite. We used the Bloom & Grow for the sentiments.

You start by fussy cutting the pieces you want on your card. You can stamp and die cut other images if you don’t want to fussy cut. You really need hardly any white space. I just used a piece of Whisper White, 4″ x 5 1/4″.  Once you set all the pieces on your cardstock (don’t adhere at this point), then you will get out your Press n Seal.

I can’t believe how easy the Press n Seal makes this technique. Lay your Press n Seal onto your project, and really push down all over. This is important and you will see later why. Now trim all your edges.

I used the Stitched Rectangles for my frame. Remember to put your frame in at an angle. You will get a much better cut. My Big Shot jumps and doesn’t cut the whole piece unless I put it on an angle like my photo.

You will use inside the frame for another card, so set that aside. Carefully take the Press n Seal along with all the pieces that you laid on the Whisper White cardstock. Flip it over (so the backside) and add Dimensionals. You will need a LOT of Dimensionals.

Next is the tricky part. Carefully put your frame back on the Whisper White piece. You can see I didn’t do that to mine. I laid it right on my card base. Oops! Now you will very carefully peel off the Press n Seal. Do this slowly or it might stick to your dsp and tear. I had that happen to mine and I added a little Tombow and was able to fix it. Now you can add your sentiment and anything else you want to.

My second card is on top. I stamped the leaves from Bloom & Grow around the edge and the sentiment on a banner.

Patty used the Square Framelits for her cards. Same paper just a different color.

So, what do you think? Are you brave enough to make the Floating Frame card. Again its not hard, but does take time to make.

You will need Press n Seal to make this card. You can find it in grocery stores, Target, Walmart & Costco. I’m sure Amazon also has it. You better get two rolls as you will want to have one in your kitchen. It works much better than Plastic Wrap.

Ok, now for my card; I saw this gift card holder on Angie Juda’s blog. I knew it would be perfect to make for my friend Patty as her birthday was last week. Brighton is her favorite place to shop, so that is the card I gave her, even though it shows a Visa card in my photo. I didn’t have her gift card until after I took all my photos.

I started with a 3 1/2″ x 9″ Mango Melody, scored at 4 1/2″.  Take a envelope from the Note Cards package and cut in half, at 2 1/4″ that way you can use the other half for another card. Use your 1″ Circle Punch to punch about half way in. This way you can get the gift card out easier. Adhere this to your card base at the fold. I used snail.

I used a piece of Whisper White cardstock & cut at , 3 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ and stamped the flower all over it from Parcels & Petals, its on page 27.  It comes as a bundle with a really cute box die. I didn’t use the die this time. Angie used a piece of DSP for her card.

Add the Whisper White (or dsp) to the front of the card. Now this card is going to open the opposite a regular card would open. The fold will be at the bottom.

I stamped the different layers of the flower (Mango Melody) several times along with the single leaf (Granny Apple Green) and fussy cut each piece, curled the edges with a Bone Folder and layered them together to fit onto a 2″ Circle Punch. I used Glue Dots to layer the flowers and add to the 2″ Circle. For me, I like to do a “dry” run first to make sure everything will fit like I want to. So before adding the flowers, I stamped the sentiment from Itty Bitty Greetings in Granny Apple Green, then added the flowers. Add the Rhinestones to the center and then “wink” them with Wink of Stella.

Score the Belly Band at 5″. I stamped the large flower several times in Mango Melody ink. Used the Banner punch to do the ends and wrapped around the card. You want it to be tight but not too tight so you can get the belly band off to see what is inside.  Staple the end and added a double Linen Thread bow with a Glue Dot. This card won’t fit into a regular envelope. I added it to the gift I was giving her. Do you think I took a photo of it all put together? Nope, totally forgot……kind of like my Open House photos……
